Scandinavian modernism
c. 1935 – 1970
Warm modernism, designed for people.
Functional and warm design, characterized by light forms, natural materials, and craftsmanship.
Scandinavian modernism combines the principles of modernism with warmth, humanism, and craftsmanship. Emerging in the 1940s and 1950s in countries such as Denmark, Sweden, and Finland, it places strong emphasis on comfort and usability.
Designers such as Alvar Aalto, Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, and Eva Schildt created furniture in which natural materials, light forms, and functionality converge. This movement remains highly relevant due to its timeless and approachable character.
