The Swan Sofa, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for Fritz Hansen, was originally created as part of the interior concept for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Within this project, Jacobsen developed a series of furniture pieces that formed a coherent dialogue between architecture and interior design.

The design is defined by its flowing sculptural form without straight lines. The seat, backrest and armrests merge into a continuous organic volume that opens toward the user. This shape was made possible through an innovative internal construction combining a metal frame with molded foam.

The sofa stands on a slender central metal base that enhances the visual lightness of the object. As a two-seater, the Swan Sofa combines sculptural presence with relatively compact proportions.

Within Scandinavian Modern design, the Swan Sofa represents the shift from strict functionalism toward a more organic design language.
