The Tulip Chair, designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956 for Knoll, is part of the iconic Pedestal Collection. With this design, Saarinen aimed to eliminate what he described as the “chaos of legs” typically found beneath tables and chairs. The result is a sculptural seat with a central base that brings both visual and structural clarity to the space.

The shell-shaped seat flows organically into a slender, single pedestal base, creating a clear and futuristic silhouette. Saarinen combined innovative materials and manufacturing techniques to create a chair that is both technically advanced and aesthetically refined. The construction emphasizes continuity and unity of form, reflecting his architectural approach to design.

Within Mid-Century Modern, the Tulip Chair represents an optimistic vision of modern living, where functionality, industrial production and sculptural expression converge. The design remains relevant through its balance between rationality and elegance, integrating effortlessly into both residential and professional interiors.
