The EA116 chair was designed as a light and relaxed seating solution within the Aluminium Group by Charles and Ray Eames. The design combines a slender aluminium frame with a suspended seat and backrest.

Instead of traditional upholstery, the material is stretched between the frame, allowing the chair to subtly adapt to the body. This construction creates a balance between flexibility and structural clarity. The lower seating position gives the object a more relaxed and informal character.

The base provides stability and reinforces the light character of the design. The open frame structure creates a visually clear and transparent appearance, allowing the chair to integrate easily into different interiors.

Within Mid-Century Modern design, the chair reflects the Eames’ innovative approach, where material and construction play a central role. The design demonstrates how technique and comfort can be combined in a clear and functional object.

The chair is used in lounges, living spaces and informal work environments where a relaxed and iconic seating solution is desired.
